Gone are the days when all people carriers really had to do was to come up with clever ways to carry people today in the face of competition from crossovers SUVs and ever more versatile family hatches MPVs have to be a bit more exciting and aspirational especially if they want to slice that the medium-sized volume sector where's the ferry's Scenic's seam axes and Picasso's holds sway this second generation Mazda five promises to be exactly that we're born we grow up we get married we have kids we buy a people carrier there's sometimes a crushing predictability to the path life takes isn't there the NPV is seen as both the great facilitator of successful.
All-weather family life and it's the type of car that happens to you when your commitments finally nail the coffin lid shut on your desires it doesn't have to be like that of course empty these can be cool stylish and fun they just have to be a bit cleverer about it and this second-generation master 5 is one 7 seater with its thinking cap firmly on though half a million examples of the original mazda 5 were sold worldwide it was always something of our minority choice in the UK forgotten by a Zafira Picasso and scenic buying 7 seat mini MPV audience constantly preoccupied with dirty nappies first steps and forgotten PE kits and this despite its unique provision in the mini MPV class of the kind of useful sliding side doors that until this car's introduction in 2005 what had been limited to much larger people carriers hence the need in 2010 for the introduction of a mark 2 model that kept much of what made the original version work but closed it in a package more likely to get noticed let's check it out.
Now whatever you think about masters zum-zum advertising program it does at least have some basis in fact by Lodge masters ah better to drive than products from rival brands a dynamic standard that's even more noticeable when applied to genres like people carriers like MTV's they have no right to be sporty at all as is the case here now you can't create a sports car out of something so big and high sided but you can make something that's surprisingly good to drive something that can really reward after you drop the kids off at school reward you on the back roads home in this class only Ford's grand c-max can rival this car in this respect now the reasons why have to do with what Mazda calls a more linear feel to the whole driving experience smoothing out everything from braking to steering to suspension so that the car flows with you through the bends with much less body roll than you'd expect from a people carrier thanks to a 17 percent improvement in body chassis stiffness it also helps that refinement is excellent thanks to a 10% drop in wind noise the six-speed manual gearbox is slick and that as with most MPD's there's a slightly higher driving position to give.
You a commanding view of the road ahead that also helps when you're parking and and as does the fact that there's a tight turning circle just eleven point two meters curb to curb unusually for a car this kind its petrol rather than diesel power that receives the most emphasis in the range with petrol tires choosing between a 115 PS 1.8 and a 150 PS 2-liter engine rather confusingly badge dat di si it's not diesel the letters actually stand for direct injection spark ignition if you do on a diesel there's a 115 PS 1.6 litre unit that though frugal and flexible isn't especially fast need thirteen point seven seconds to cover the north 260 increment the two liter petrol model that I'm driving here is noticeably more rapid covering the same distance covering the same increment in 11 seconds on the way to 120 miles an hour but even here the feeling isn't of exceptionally fast progress this car is more about pulling power talk one reason why it can boast a unbreak towing limit of 600 kilograms MPV Tsar square boxy things or at least some of them are this one's as practically shaped as any but hides the fact with a curvy design language that master calls negara flow.
Now where you notice this most is up and down the flanks we're rather curious wave designs have been pressed into the panel work apparently intended to evoke thoughts of rolling waves and windswept sand dunes it's all very color and angle sensitive and won't be to everyone's taste but it is strikingly different what really matters of course is what all this fancy panel work conceals now don't expect it to be quite as big as a Galaxy S Max or Chiron class large MPV from the next sector up but it does offer more cabin room than any vehicle just 4.5 metres long as any right to provide now you enter in through twin sliding side doors that are still an unusual inclusion in this class and will be gratefully appreciated by any parent who's had the embarrassment of watching their offspring remodel the paintwork of adjacent cars in tight car parks as they spring out now for this mark to model the doors feature optional electric power as I've got here and they're bigger as well opening to reveal a lower wider step that makes it easier to lean.
In and make sure the kids are properly buckled up inside the karakuri suit design really it's very clever the seats in this middle centre wrote go backwards and forwards by up to 270 millimeters so you can enhance your leg room or that of those behind and you can recline by up to fifty degrees for greater comfort on longer journeys these neat pop-out tables will please the kids too and you'll need to be a child to properly fit into the center seat in this second middle row now to be fair to the designers it's really only intended for little ones or adults on very short journeys but when you don't need it you can fold it out of the way with the kind of clever seat eating seat mechanism that you'll also find on a Ford grand c-max you use it by pulling up the cushion of the left hand middle seat and then folding the center seat into it that you can then create a spacious four seater and by folding down the backrest of the center seats create yourself a nice comfortable armrest the other option is to fold out this very neat karakuri storage box which lies under the right hand center seat cushion when you fold it out you free up a useful 6.3 litre storage box under the right hand center seat base and you've got everything you need for spacious four seater motoring the floor rises to the rear theater style to ensure that second and third row passengers have as clear as possible a view of the road ahead now.
If you're planning to use the third row seating then you'll probably want to take advantage of the way that the middle Center seat backrests can hinge out of the way to create an access corridor to the very rear most seats of your Mazda 5 now as with most compact seven-seater MPV these are really only intended for children or adults on very short journeys now these third row seats fold back into the floor when you don't need them but when they are in place there's obviously not going to be that much storage space and offer just 112 litres but you do get this useful underfloor compartment to conceal valuables away from prying eyes that means that if you are going to be regularly traveling 7-up then you might want to consider investing in the kind of substantial roof box that this cars maximum 75 kilogram roof load possible of course if you're only going to be using four or five seats in your master 5 then you won't want to be bothered with all that you'll simply fold down these rear most seats to free up 426 litres of luggage space that's a total which can of course be extended further if you're able to fold down the middle of seating row and that frees up 857 liters floor to belt height or 1566 litres floor to ceiling now at the wheel in what master calls a driver centric cabin you sit behind a windscreen most deeply raked than you'd normally expect from a car in this class adding to the sporty feel that the designers were obviously trying to create now behind the wheel it's not the plushest cabin of any in the class but it is very well made and very nicely laid out with deeply recessed circular instrument dials flanked by a centre console that houses the audio and the climate controls and there's plenty of spaces to put all your stuff as well with six cupholders two bottle holders and an 11 litre glovebox.
Now this master five has been carefully pitched somewhere towards the middle of the compact 7-seater people carrying sector with a price span ranging mainly between eighteen and twenty two thousand pounds and around two-thirds of UK buyers likely to opt for a petrol rather than a diesel variant if you do want a diesel then you're looking at a premium of around two and a half thousand pounds to go from 115 PS 1.8 litre petrol to the 115 PS 1.6 litre diesel though to be fair the diesel is high espect now what all that means when you compare it to rivals is that you looking at a saving of between 1,000 and 2,000 pounds at this price wise anyway on an equivalent petrol Ford grand c-max looking at another more recently introduced compact seven-seater MPV rival like purchase 5w8 well you're probably paying around the same in entry-level petrol form but you're looking at quite a bit more for the peugeot if you want a more powerful petrol derivative and the older designs like Vauxhall Zafira can really offer significant savings on this car and what about diesel well at first glance looking at list prices this Mazda 5 drinking from the black pump is one of the pricier examples in this sector but it's not by much and this car does come very well equipped now whichever master five you choose a 1.8 litre petrol or a 1.6 litre diesel with 115 PS or the 2 litre petrol model with 150 PS that I've got here you should find your car to be decently equipped all models arrive with alloy wheels air conditioning cruise control a 6 speaker CD stereo with bluetooth iPod iPhone and mp3 CD compatibility and powered electric windows and mirrors now safety of course is paramount in this type of family car so you won't be surprised to find that the body shell here has been engineered to the highest standards of occupant protection you get the usual traction stability and braking aids to stop you having an accident.
In the first place and this masters ESS emergency stop signal set up that under heavy braking rapidly flashes the hazard warning lights to warn drivers behind if you really can't avoid an accident though you'll be glad at the twins side front and curtain airbags plus there are twin ISOFIX child seats safety Anchorage points on the outer two seats in the middle of row slippery styling a nought point three OCD drag factors very sleek for an MPV and frugal Euro 5 compatible engines help this master 5 to achieve very competitive running costs if you owned an old Mark 1 Master 5 then you'll find that this one is about 4 percent more frugal and about 6 percent greener than its predecessor now petrol buyers will need to know that the 150 PS 2 litre version that I'm driving here is actually slightly more frugal than the less powerful 115 PS 1.8 the two liter returns for 2.9 miles per gallon on the combined cycle as opposed to 30 9.2 miles to the gallon in the 1.8 and in terms of co2 it puts at 159 grams per kilometer as opposed to 168 now that's due to a clever I stop the stop start system that you only get on the 2 litre that cuts the engine seamlessly and stop-start traffic or when you're waiting at the lights leading to figures on economy and emissions that are about 15 percent better than you'd otherwise get go for the 1.6 liter diesel model and you'll get fifty four point three miles to the gallon on the combined cycle and put out 138 g/km of co2 a centrally mounted gear change indicator should help everyday drivers get somewhere near those sort of figures on a normal basis residuals well there won't be class leading but they'll be probably better than that of most mainstream rivals insurance groups range between 12 and 16 on the 1 to 50 grouping scale and servicing is every 12,000 miles or every 12 months styling and driving dynamics should never dominate the people carrying remix' but in recent times it's been good to see both these things assuming greater prominence in cars like.
This one slick lions and curvy detailing certainly add an element of interest that's often missing in the NPV class and this semester five will or certainly be better to drive than you might expect to add in the practicality of these neat sliding side doors plus build quality and practical seat design that no rival competitor and even often ignored actually very informed choice in these a fairer scenic and c-max class seven-seat MPV sector most master 5 owners I know swear by them having driven this one I can see why you. #MAZDAPAKISTAN #MAZDA5 #MPV
